PH&D Railroad Historical Society 2100 32nd Street Port Huron, MI 48060
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Port Huron and Detroit Railroad Society, we bring you an updated message regarding the Tunnel City Railway Show for 2021. Due to the State of Michigan’s continued restrictions on gatherings and the Federal Border being closed, we have cancelled this event. We do this for the safety of our attendees, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, and our railfan and maritime community due to the current government requirements. Please know that this decision was not made without all efforts to have this show go on. However, we cannot keep rescheduling this show only to be cancelled and rescheduled and cancelled again. A lot of planning and effort goes into these shows and they are a lot of work for our limited volunteer pool to put them together.
At this time we plan on no further rescheduling of the show in 2021. All vendors, sponsors, donors, and those who purchased tables or ad space in our show flyer shall be given their full refund of all payments made, unless they wish to defer that option and consider it a donation to the PH&D RR HS.
We are disappointed to take this course of action and know that exhibitors will be losing both revenue and the enjoyment of attending our show. We know the many railfans and families that have attended the show from Canada and around the Great Lakes area will be disappointed about this. We are not alone in cancelling our train show. Many other states are seeing shows cancelled from gun shows to bridal shows and other national train shows and events. The Board of Directors also believes that it’s the right thing to do considering the current US / Canadian Boarder restrictions and restrictions currently in place from the State of Michigan regarding gatherings. Our Canadian friends account for over 40% of our visitors. We also note a continued protection in place order for our friends in Canada who would not be able to join us.
Again, our 2021 Tunnel City Railway Show has been cancelled and we will not be scheduling a new show for 2021. Covid restrictions, train show cancellations, and other internal issues have all come together to make 2020 one of the most difficult and challenging years financially for the Society. The loss of the potential train show revenue has been felt year to date. We will keep all members, vendors, and friends of the Society informed on any plans or changes going forwards. Thank you for your understanding.
